Presentation by Sarwar Sohel at the 2016, International conference on Sustainable Development, ULAB, Bangladesh

Md Sarwar Hossain, ACD-SANDEE PhD Support Fund Scholar presented his research work at the International Conference on Sustainable Development at the University of Liberal Arts, Dhaka.  Sarwar’s presentation was based on his research findings from the data that he had collected through the SANDEE PhD Support Fund Scholarship.  His presentation was on Participatory modelling for conceptual system dynamic model of social- ecological system in Bangladesh delta.  

This was the final presentation of the field work result for which he was supported by SANDEE through the Phd dissertation support fund.  The paper and the presentation were highly appreciated after the presentation. Dr Jeron Warner from Wageningen University was the session chair and Professor Margreet from UNESCO-IHE Netherlands was in the panel to select the best presentation among all 42 papers.   The Conference awarded  this paper as one of the best paper in the conference.

ACD-SANDEE PhD Scholar’s Seminar in Sylhet

H M Tuihedur Rahman, ACD-SANDEE PhD Scholar is presenting a seminar on “Livelihood Vulnerability and Resilience to Climatic Stresses: A Study of the North-Eastern Flood Plain Communities of Bangladesh” at the Metropolitan University, Sylhet on 16 November 2015 from 3:30-5:30pm

Tuihedur Rahman is currently doing his PhD in the Department of Natural Resource Sciences in McGill Univeristy, Canada. Dr Belal Ahmad, Department of Forestry, SUST and Dr. Muntaha Rakib, Department of Economics, SUST will be discussing the research paper.

Professor Md. Saleh Uddin, Vice Chancellor of the Metropolitan University and Chairperson of the Asian Center for Development will be present as the Chief Guest.

August 18, 2015: Bangladesh Centre for Advanced Studies (BCAS)

ACD-SANDEE PhD Scholar Ronju Ahammad Presented Seminar

Ronju Ahammad presented in first seminar at the BCAS on his PhD Research Topic at the Bangladesh Centre for Advanced Studies in Dhaka.  Dr. Atiq Rahman, Executive Director of BCAS was present at the seminar.  Seminar was also attended by Researchers from Chittagong University and from BCAS.  Dr. A.K. Enamul Haque was present at the seminar.

 

May 7, 2015: Inception Seminar held at ICCCAD

Sarwar Sohel ACD-SANDEE PhD Dissertation Award Scholar presented his inception seminar at the ICCCAD seminar room at Baridhara, Dhaka.  In the seminar, Sarwar presented his conceptual model on ‘Modelling ecosystem services and human well-being using system dynamic approach’

Researchers and Scholars from ICCCAD attended the seminar and provided feedback to the scholar.  Sarwar Sohel is a PhD Student at the University of Southampton, UK and is currently at ICCCAD for his data collection work.  He is funded for his research by SANDEE.

Sarwar Hossain will be presenting in a seminar titled ‘Modelling ecosystem services and human wellbeing using system dynamic approach for managing socio-ecological system’ at the ICCCAD at 3:00 pm on Thursday, May 7 at the ICCCAD Baridhara Office, Apartment A-5, 98 Park Road, Baridhara.

About the seminar

The seminar will give a brief of the concept are safe operating for social-ecological system and followed by modelling the ecosystem services and human well-being which is the pre-essential phase before defining the safe operating space. Thus, participatory modelling is using to develop conceptual framework for ecosystem services and human well-being. In addition, the initial plan is to share the idea before starting field work for data collection, which is supported by SANDEE.

Sarwar Hossain is a Doctoral Researcher at the Geography and Environment department of University of Southampton and also a Visiting Researcher at ICCCAD.
  

 About PhD Dissertation Support Fund

The South Asian Network for Development and Environmental Economics (SANDEE) and the Asian Center for Development (ACD) seek to offer Ph.D. Dissertation Scholarships in the field of environment and development economics for 2014. This program focused on Bangladeshi researchers who may be interested in undertaking Ph. D. dissertation research in three prioritized areas: a) Ecosystem Management; b) Economics of Climate Change; and c) Policies and Programs for Greening Development.

Department of Natural Resource Sciences, Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, McGill University Canada.  He is working under  Gordon Hickey Associate Professor and William Dawson Scholar at the McGill University on  Livelihood vulnerability and resilience to climate change: A study of the North-Eastern flood plain communities of Bangladesh.  He is hosted by the Metropolitan University, Sylhet Bangladesh.

ACD has signed a contract with Ronju Ahammad, PhD Candidate at the Research Institute for the Environment and Livelihoods of Charles Darwin University, Darwin, Northern Territory, Australia.  He is working on under  Dr. Natasha Stacey on  Reconciling Livelihoods and Conservation in Forest Landscapes of Bangladesh.  Ronju Ahammad is hosted by the Bangladesh Center for Advanced Studies (BCAS) in Dhaka.
